Welcome to the Global Citizenship Virtual Exchange Consortium (GCVEX)!!!
We are a collaborative network of faculty and institutions from multiple countries dedicated to promoting global citizenship through virtual exchange, international education, and international collaborative research and practice.
The Consortium is affiliated with Rutgers University Graduate School of Education with university partners from around the world.
Grounded in the values of inclusion, intercultural dialogue, and experiential learning, GCVEX empowers participants to co-create solutions to shared global challenges through virtual exchanges and themed academic modules.
What started at Rutgers has become a globally co-created initiative, now supported by universities in North America, Latin America, Africa, Asia, and beyond.
Our MISSION
Our mission is to:
Foster global citizenship education through faculty and student virtual exchange and collaboration
Promote the decolonization of international and global citizenship education by decentering Eurocentric narratives, amplifying voices from the Global South, highlighting indigenous and local knowledge systems, and fostering critical dialogue grounded in diverse global experiences
Promote inclusive, ethical, sustainable and equal partnerships through shared leadership and mutual commitment among faculty across all member countries.
Promote equitable faculty development through global, cross-cultural collaborations in interdisciplinary research
Develop capacity among educators around the world to facilitate virtual exchanges
Promote the development of capacities in the use of innovative communication technologies among students and faculty around the world to support the exchange and co-creation of knowledge.
Our History
GCVEX started in August 2022 with a grant from RUGlobal at Rutgers University. It started with a faculty exchange and launched the first student exchange in January 2023. All exchanges aim to foster Global Citizenship and content is inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
